It's not often that I write letters of recommendation about companies that we pay to provide service to us. But in the case of Stephen Phillips and his people at Cyberlink I will gladly make an exception. Cyberlink first started out providing ASP service to our companies which are scattered out in 10 locations across Texas. Initially, we used them to support our billing system. We were skeptical at first of entrusting a third party to something as important as maintaining our revenue source. Concerns soon dissipated as we realized the benefit to our companies Cyberlink provided.
During the past year, Cyberlink has taken over the management of our entire Information System. We made this decision after experiencing the high quality of service provided by the Cyberlink team of IS professionals. All repairs, service, upgrades, backups, relocations and licensure is managed by Cyberlink. I can honestly say that our IS system (over 100 users) is more stable than its ever been and our employees are extremely happy with the professionalism and courtesy of the Cyberlink technicians.
From my perspective as CFO, I see that the company has benefited in many ways from our relationship with Cyberlink: the elimination of an entire IS Department, assurance that all data is backed up daily and safely stored, all users are using licensed and legal software, problem resolution is fast and completed courteously. Perhaps more importantly, I have access to licensed and certified computer professionals that I probably would not be able to afford if I were to attempt to hire them. This is reassuring in this era of constant and fast changing technology.
The bottom line is Cyberlink is everything its promotional brochures says it is, far exceeding our expectations.

Dallas Data Processing Services
As one of a few software providers in upstream oil and gas accounting offering outsourced staff and services, in September of 2000 Dallas Data Processing Services, Inc. saw an Internet delivery platform as mandatory and urgent. Working with the experienced technical and business consultants at Cyberlink, we charted a rapid course towards an ASP business model. The Cyberlink team provided the hardware, software and configuration expertise we needed to quickly (a matter of days) prove viability of the plan. Cyberlink work closely with us to insure performance and security were not issues. Their insights helped Dallas Data identify changes to the business model and software management processes to optimize benefits from the change.
Within a month of our initial conversations with Cyberlink, Dallas Data transitioned a "legacy" customer to our new CyberlinkASP environment. Dallas Data quickly implemented software and business process enhancements identified during planning and initial testing. With improvements in place, other legacy customers transitioned to the ASP environment. If we had attempted to do this all in house, we estimate that the initial cash outlay for hardware, software and consulting services would have raised the risk of project failure significantly, we may never have achieved the levels of environment stability/reliability of Cyberlink and the time to break even on the investment would have more than tripled.
Our customers now receive the latest features and program updates at the moment the development and testing cycle completes. Troubleshooting issues by shadowing customers as they talked with us greatly improves our ability to accurately diagnose and fix software and training issues. Over our first year, support costs dropped by an amount roughly equal to 30% of our top customer service technician's time. Customer satisfaction improved and so did our product.
The CyberlinkASP environment allowed us to more closely integrate our staff and services with our customers. Several legacy customers bought more of our services as they experienced the better integration. One customer commented, "On the Internet, it is like Dallas Data is on my staff and just down the hall from me."
This reality has played a part in improving our sales results. We are able to quickly install the Citrix ICA client and demonstrate our software within minutes during the sales presentation at the buyers site. Bringing our software up almost instantly has a huge impact. Buyers immediately perceive our superior technical capabilities and the value to their operations. The shadowing feature illustrates how they will have full and immediate access to support expertise that they could never have with other solutions.
Looking back from the perspective of my professional experience of implementing systems for over fifteen years with Accenture and A.T. Kearney/EDS, this project ranks as one of the biggest successes in terms of speed, risk management, return on investment and results. For Dallas Data, we cannot imagine our business without the CyberlinkASP environment and our working partnership with Stephen and Michael.
